Joe Hummel, PhD

Joe Hummel is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Lake Forest College, joining the
faculty in the Spring of 2001. Before coming to Lake Forest he was a faculty member at the
University of Illinois, Chicago, and a graduate student at the University of California,
Irvine.
At Lake Forest, Joe is a member of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science,
runs an active undergraduate research program, helps maintain the department's computer
facilities, and advises the Student Chapter of the ACM.
Joe also serves as chair of the Academic Appeals Board, and the Independent Scholar Program.
Joe is an active member of the professional community, both as a consultant and
trainer in the world of Microsoft Technologies. He has delivered workshops throughout the USA
and abroad, presented over 50 webcasts for MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network), created and
delivered courses for Pluralsight, and a co-author on two Computer Science titles published
by Addison-Wesley.
Joe Hummel resides in the Chicago area with his wife Marybeth, his daughter Dai-lin,
his dog Calico, and his sailboat Archimedes II.
